ASSIGNMENT NO. 8

Interviewing a personnel or human resource manager is not that difficult. Because of our adopted company, we already have a human resource manager to interview with. Me and my group mates have the same manager interviewed.

According to Mrs. Laarni Lobo, the HR manager of Pag-IBIG Fund, her concept on the scope, nature and role of Human Resource Management is that since human resources are the vital factors in an organization. They should be manage well and make sure that all the employees be professionalized and aim the excellence to deliver good services.

Her concept is the same as the concept of her organization.

I agree with her concept. Since human resource is the most important resource in an organization, they should be manage well. The organization should make sure that the human resources enjoy his/her job, receive corresponding benefits if he/she need to have. Management make sure that the human resources do his/her job well to respond the need of the organization. By this, the organization as well will benefit since the human resources perform their task well, the organization itself will be successful in the industry.

I HATE YOU BUT I NEED YOU!!!!

Every time I see you
My mood changes from good to bad
You thought I'm glad to see you
You make my day bad

Days go by
Missing your voice
Saying hi and hello
And in my thoughts
I long for your presence
Praying.........
That you'll be her again

Boy, is it too late to say??
Yes, I hate you..
For letting my heart
Fall in love with you...

UPDATES

September 5, 2008

Our Gantt Chart by this day is being approved by our professor including our letter for the company. Unfortunately, the letter is being revised because of some technical errors. We are supposed to pass our letter to our company but, their working hours was already done. We decided that we will just pass it by September 8.

September 8, 2008

We went to PAG-IBIG to give our letter for their approval. They just receive the letter and told us that we will just follow up it day by day...
By September 10, we call to their office to ask if they already approved our request. Ms. Laarni Lobo was the one whom we talk to the phone, and she told us that we can conduct our second interview by September 12, 2008 3:00 pm.

September 12, 2008

Friday 3:00 pm, we went to PAG-IBIG to conduct our interview. We ask Ms. Laarni Lobo if we could propose a HRIS for their company but suddenly, she doesn't have any idea what is this all about. During our interview, we found out that they don't have an HRIS. The files of their employees are manually organized. Their company do have a system but for the transaction purposes only.

We gathered information that we will be needing in our major paper. As what I've said earlier, we were shocked because we thought that they do have their Human Resource Information System. Since they don't have HRIS, it would be difficult for us to proposed because we don't have any idea what kind of HRIS we are going to propose. we do understand how to create HRIS, but our compny do not have one, so its difficult for us.

September 13, 2008

Our group went to our apartment to gather and organize the information we get during our interview. We have little time to do this because some of our group mates are going to their hometown including me.

September 15, 2008

By this day, we started drafting our introduction and other things that are scheduled this day. We don't have enough time to finish it because we have our quiz and exam by that day.

The Gantt Chart (UPDATE 2)

Before we start making our major paper, our professor told us to create a GANTT CHART. As a first timer in his class, we don't have any idea about it. We just ignore it. But when we heard that the last submission of the GANTT CHART was on last Sept. 6, we quickly create our GANTT CHART.

This chart is important because it enable us to manage our schedules and activities on a specific date. Its disadvantage is that, if some of the activities are pending then, the others too. We just created our GANTT CHART last Sept. 4. While creating it, many situation happens. Someone informed us that the sofware that is needed to use to create this chart is Microsoft Project but the only software we had is the Microsoft Visio. So we look for some people who had some installer of this software.

There is this one person who had this installer yet he is already in their house. Desperately, we ask him if we can go to their house to borrow the installer. Fortunately, he let us went to their house. We really don't know where his place is, so we ask his house's address. When we reached their place, i found out that their neighbor is The House Speaker Cong. Nograles. Isn't it amazing???hehehehe....

This person let us come in in their house and i was stunned because their house is big yet so silent. After we get the installer, we go home directly and started making the said chart.

After that day, we printed our chart and we passed it to our professor, but sad to say, he is not around so we just leave our Gantt Chart together with our letter for our company to be signed by him (our professor).

The Beginning(UPDATE 1)

From the beginning of this subject HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT, our professor informed us that in the end of our discussion, we are going to conduct an observation and interview from different company that we desired.

Our group first choice is "Link 2 Support", but sad to say, my group mates including me was scared because this company is implementing "English Speaking" inside their office.
Our second choice is PAG-IBIG since it is a walking distance company, we don't need to waste much of our money just to visit it. Because of being sure, we visit some companies for us to conduct an interview for gathering some information needed in our report, like DSWD, DPWH, Department of Energy and PLDT. In just one day, we walk along the street of ACACIA if I'm not wrong to visit all this companies I've mentioned.

We drafted our first letter asking permission if we can conduct an observation and interview staffs that can answer our queries. We created, i think three letters addressed to three different companies. We divided our group into three to personally give our letter to its specific company for approval. Unfortunately, the two companies (PLDT, GSIS) disapproved our request and only PAG-IBIG approved it.

After approving our letter, we ask their telephone number in case we need to ask something yet we forgot to leave our contact number in case they will inform us the schedule for our interview.

Few days after, we call the contact number they gave us to ask if when are we going to conduct our interview to them, a staff tend to pass us to different staff of the company until we reach Ms. Laarni Lobo, the HR Manager of the company. She informed us that few days after they approved our letter, they want to inform us directly that they approved it already but sad to say, we didn't leave our contact number. She told us that we can only conduct an interview by July 22-25, and this schedule is not good for us because we are going to have our sharing by July 15 so I ask Ms. Laarni Lobo if she can adjust the schedule and fortunately, she reschedule it July 9. By that day, we conduct our interview in their company.

We are nervous during that time because, we're really not prepared and that interview was just an instant. Fortunately, we did our task good, we gathered information that we needed during our sharing and mostly we learned a lot about the HR of the company.

Assignment No. 7 (SONA 2008)

On the assumption that you have heard/read the SONA of the president identify at least
three areas related to HRM and explain how it can improve our quality of life.

1.“Mula sa buwang ito, wala nang income tax ang sumusweldo ng P200,000 o mas mababa sa isang taon – P12 billion na bawas-buwis para sa maralita at middle class. Maraming salamat, Congress.

Explanation:

Employees now have bigger salary and they can now provide their needs because their salary is enough to sustain them.

2.“Pinagsasama-sama natin ang mga programa ng DSWD, DOH, GSIS, SSS at iba pang lumalaban sa kahirapan sa isang National Social Welfare Program para proteksyonan ang pinaka-mahihirap mula sa pandaigdigang krisis, and to help those whose earnings are limited by illness, disability, loss of job, age and so on—through livelihood projects, microfinance, skills and technology transfer, emergency and temporary employment, pension funds, food aid and cash subsidies, child nutrition and adult health care, medical missions, salary loans, insurance, housing programs, educational and other savings schemes, and now cheaper medicine—Thanks to Congress.”

Explanation:

Since people who earn money have limitation because of some factors, government united DSWD, DOH, GSIS and SSS. Through the projects of these programs, they can help develop the people (employers and employee) to gain enough money considering the factors affecting them.

3.“Employers have funded the two increases in SSS benefits since 2005. Thank you, employers for paying the premiums.”

Explanation:

Because the SSS payments increases, the employers tend to pay higher but then they will receive many benefits.

ASSIGNMENT NO. 6

“Human beings are the most important, potent, and critical resource of any organization, and yet are the least understood and the worst managed of its resources.”

Human beings are important resource of any organization because they are the one possible for the improvement or development of the company. They have the characteristics and skills to do such activities that can lead to the success of the organization.

Organizations have several structures that human beings cause to become animate and alive through their actions. In order for an organization to grow and develop according to a plan, the development of the human resource must also be planned and managed accordingly. The development of the organization can only be attained if the human beings are developed and understand properly. The success of the organization is based on the human resource actualization.

Human Resource Management in the BSIT/BSCS Curicculum(Assignment No. 5)

Human Resource Management in the BSIT/BSCS Curicculum

In my own understanding, the subject Human Resource Management is included in the BSIT/BSCS curicculum for us BSIT/BSCS students know how a specific company look for employees in a specific job in the right time. Since we are BSIT/BSCS students, we are ought to know how this HRM works in an organization since we are the most important employees inside a company. Why I say so???Because we have the knowledge and we can be responsible to make the company rise(successful) and make it fall(failed).

Reflection on the 21st Century Corporations(Assignment No. 4)

The 21st Century Corporations

Obviously, we are in the 21st century where most of the corporation is undergoing a radical transformation.

The very core of today's century corporation is technology, or what people called it digitization. It means replacing human minds and hands in the organization with computers and networks.
Digitizing everything from employee benefits to accounts receivables to product design cuts time, cost, and people from operations, resulting in huge savings and vast improvements in speed.

In this case, the concept of Human Resource Management is being neglected. As what I've known, humans or people are the one who is possible for the success of the company. Even though technology makes the work faster and easier, the employees in the organization are being affected because the tendency is that they will not have a work anymore.

Having technology in our generation is good when it is being used in the right way!!

Evaluation on the Downsizing of Boeing Company(Assignment No. 3)

Boeing Company

“Boeing” is said to be the world's largest aerospace and defense company which operates in over 90 countries and claims the title of America's largest exporter. It has three divisions: commercial airplanes (50.3% of revenue), integrated defense systems (48.3%), and a small aircraft leasing subsidiary (1.2%). The most prominent is the commercial airplane section which faces intense competition from its Airbus line of planes.

Since Boeing is known to be the only remaining U.S manufacturer of large commercial aircraft, they will be making military and special aircraft ten years from now. But according to Alan MacPherson, professor and chair of the Department of Geography in the College of Arts and Science its days of manufacturing large passengers jets will probably have to come to an end.

After the incident of The World Trade Center and Pentagon on September 11. The senior Boeing officials sensed that airplane manufacturer would suffer drastically on this happening. Because of this event, the Boeing Commercial President and CEO Alan Mulally consulted Chairman Philip M. Condit and made the decision on September 18 to cut 20%( 20,000) to 30%( 30,000) of 96,000 people in Seattle area employed by Boeing’s commercial airplane unit. This decision was hard to make by the Boeing’s Company because such dealings and actions will affect the lives of the people who work in their company.

The following are the evidence noted by Pritchard and MacPherson:

1. Boeing's sale or closure of approximately 10 million square feet of space devoted to commercial and military aircraft production in the past decade

2. a 60 percent decline in Boeing's commercial aircraft production, with less than 50 aircraft in backlogs of four of its six commercial aircraft models, when most viable, mature aircraft programs have backlogs in excess of 100

3. the lack of new aircraft programs—Boeing's most recent aircraft is the 777, designed in the early 1990s

4. Boeing's announcement on Dec. 20 that it would shelve its futuristic, high-speed, sonic-cruiser design in favor of a cheaper alternative, its second cancellation of a proposed commercial jetliner program

This strategy will probably be positive because aviation services and high-tech military aircraft manufacturing have had higher profit margins than the commercial side.

The effect of this strategy is lossing the members or the employees of this company who mainly do reviting and aircraft assembly. And now, they will be needing people who have new sets of skills that will fit on a specific position.

I conclude that downsizing could be a hard decision for the company to be made because the lives of the employees will be affected. On the other hand, it will be helpful for the company to maintain their standing in the industry to be able to compete to other companies.

MY JOB DESCRIPTION

All students entering college assume that whenever they finish their course, they will tend to have a job related to their particular fields. Haven't you observe nowadays that some BSIT graduates tend to land a job not related to IT Industry??Not only BSIT Graduates but some other courses too.

Information Technology is a course which studies, implements, develops and design computer-based information system particularly software applications and computer hardwares. In that definition i found in the internet, it simply defines that IT inlcudes the study why certain softwares are being created, how computer hardware functions and many more features related in Information Technology. The industry of IT is particularly wants to have a good IT graduates that can work and do specific activities that is related to this field.

As a BSIT student, i want to have a job related to IT Industry like a Computer Programmer, System Analyzer, Database Designer, Web Designer and many more. For now, there is no specific job description i want to have in the future. It is still confusing whether which of the available jobs i want to hold.I have no idea yet what specific field I'm interested and what i like most to do. What I'm thinking for now is that to finish this course with full knowledge in all its fields and subjects.

In addition to that, I also want to have more knowledge about what BSIT course can do and how it help and affect the community. When i hold a job in the future, I hope that i'll be enjoying and comfortable to work with. I also want to have a job that gives a high salary that would be enough for my family.
